After our Singapore adventure, we flew to Malang, Indonesia, to spend time with Sianita’s family and introduce Ethan and Zia to their Indonesian roots. It was a special visit filled with family, food, and everyday moments.

We reunited with Sianita’s mom, brother, aunts, uncles, and great grandma, giving everyone precious time together as a family. Some of our favorite memories were the simple ones—walking around the neighborhood, watching Ethan explore with his little pink shopping basket, and experiencing daily life in Malang.

We met up with friends, visited local cafés, and enjoyed some of the foods that made this place special. One unforgettable evening was getting late-night dessert at Anosle & Ronde, a childhood favorite of Sianita’s that she was excited to share with our family. We also bought satay from the local satay man who sold his food from the back of a motorbike—one of those small, authentic experiences that makes traveling so memorable.

Ethan also had his first professional haircut in Indonesia, another little milestone captured during this special trip.

More than anything, this part of the journey was about family. It was about slowing down, spending quality time together, and creating memories with the people who are part of our family story.
